Petri Blooms

I am fascinated with decay. In one of my newest projects, I am enjoying the process of decomposition by placing various buds, leaves, petals, and blossoms on petri dishes and recording their progress over time. It’s enlightening to see how different species of plants grow different things even when taken in the same area and under the same conditions.

The samples are placed on nutrient agar petri dishes and kept at ambient room temperature. Each dish is photographed every day over the course of a week as the samples degrade.
